There are some new buildings and spells in the game, but this opponent and the new A.I. It makes the whole thing a lot more engaging and personal. He's an active opponent who raises armies, sets traps, taunts the player, and gets very, very ****** off when he's losing. The evil god is much more proactive about kicking your divine ass, and his black-metal voice frequently taunts the player or expresses his frustration depending on how things are going in the game. Weirdly, this isn't so much due to the addition of new units, buildings, spells, or creatures, but because of the inclusion of an actual rival.

Battle of the Gods is quite a bit more fun than the original game.
